Governments at every level are guilty of out of control spending. The funds on which governments operate is that of the people and the people are not a blank check. We’ve got to stop the spending spree. If elected in November, I will work to ensure that every tax dollar is spent efficiently and wisely.
People are entitled to keep the fruits of their labor. As one who spent many hours on Legislative Plaza in protest of a state income tax, I am opposed to one and will support legislation allowing citizens to vote on an amendment to the Tennessee Constitution prohibiting that tax.
The State is facing a $1.2 billion dollar shortfall next year. The only way to balance the budget will be cutting expenditures and not by raising taxes. In order to achieve this objective, the State should utilize the private market and should divulge all functions that can be cost effectively provided by specialized firms or organizations. I will work for the citizens to ensure Tennessee spends tax dollars efficiently and accounts for every dollar spent. The State should not incur debt, which burdens future generations without their consent.
